Kodak Demonstrates Next-Generation Continuous Inkjet Printing Technology at Drupa

February 07, 2022

Kodak launched the Kodak Stream Print concept at Drupa 2008 to demonstrate the next generation of continuous inkjet printing technology: Kodak Stream inkjet printing technology.

The full-color, high-speed Stream Print concept demonstrates how continuous inkjet printing can achieve lithographic quality, productivity, and cost in commercial applications. Stream printing has a resolution of over 600dpi, a very small droplet size, an accurate drop layout, and a fast production speed of over 500 frames per minute.

Continuous inkjet technology is shifting to new markets, focusing on commercial printers that require very high throughput. Stream technology will serve as a basis for commercial printers to enter continuous inkjet printing. These printers have a monthly production capacity of 10 million pages or more and want to take advantage of digital printing, such as variable data, short strokes, personalization or Version management brings in the work that is usually used for lithography production.

"Stream technology and Kodak's combination of color management, workflow, ink and photo-sensitive substrates will provide unparalleled digital printing solutions for commercial lithography printers," said Isidre Rosello, general manager of Kodak Inkjet Printing Solutions. : "With the advantages of lithographic quality, reliability, throughput and operating costs, Stream technology will become a unique platform that allows more printers to take full advantage of digital growth opportunities through inkjet technology."

In addition to the Stream inkjet printing system, Stream Concept Printing will also take full advantage of Kodak's advances in inks and media to provide commercial printers with pigment-based inks that provide outstanding color saturation and longevity. Previously, printers using full-color continuous inkjet technology could not use dyed water or high-cost ink-jet coated substrates to print on uncoated paper. Stream technology will enable customers to use a wider range of light-sensitive substrates, whether coated or uncoated, to produce a wider range of products.

The Stream concept printing has been demonstrated to selected companies at Kodak's facility in Dayton, Ohio. "Stream technology will bring many exciting reforms in this industry, and the demonstration of this technology will show its impressive lithography-level solutions." Ronen Cohen, vice president of marketing, Kodak Inkjet Printing Solutions Said: "Stream technology offers many flexible capabilities to meet the needs of commercial printers in applications such as direct mail, catalogs, and ad insertion. Stream technology is one of the cornerstones that underscores Kodak's leadership in inkjet innovation. The feedback obtained from the demonstration is quite good."

The Stream concept printing technology demonstration and other KODAK Inkjet products will be presented on the Kodak booth of Drupa 2008 in Hall 5, Zone D01.
